On February 12th, the quarterfinal round of the Essex County Tournament took place. In the Columbia vs. Mount St. Dominic girls’ game, Columbia dominated by the score of 53-32. Senior Gabrielle Jackson led Columbia with 13 points and 16 rebounds and her teammate Kyrsten Van Natta had 6 points and 8 boards. Mount St. Dominic got 5 points and 5 rebounds from Randi Jo Farrell. In other action, East Orange Campus defeated Montclair Kimberley by a comfortable 52-43 margin. The EOCHS Jaguars were led by senior Linda Hamilton with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore Tenana Muldrow added 5 points and key rebounds. Also, Delisha Thompson had 15 points
In the other games University defeated Bloomfield Tech 49-31, and Malcolm X Shabazz beat Weequahic 79-47.
In the boys’ games, Seton Hall Prep beat East Orange 66-58 and Irvington defeated Newark’s East Side High 52-48. In the other games, Columbia got by Montclair Kimberley 59-57 while Central High shocked Shabazz 94-57.
