Students of the Orange High School Dance Ensemble and Voices in Harmony will take their talents to the stage at "Kids in Concert 2010" this Thursday, March 25 at Long Branch High School.
The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. and this year's theme is "The 20th Century - By Decade." The event marks the 12th Anniversary of the Education Law Center and is being presented by the New Jersey Education Association.
All urban public schools are invited to enter the KIC competition by creating their own artistic interpretation of this year's theme.
The KIC application process begins in October. Schools are sent a request to audition and invited to submit video applications for review by a selection committee. The KIC Artistic Director chairs the committee. Groups are chosen based on quality, creativity and type of performance.
By January, the committee notifies the selected participants. The Artistic Director then works with the students to develop and stage the concert event. Before the concert, participating students meet each other and rehearse the show. A final rehearsal takes place the day of the concert
Participants of Kids in Concert work with little instruction outside of school. Students give performances ranging from dance groups and soloists to performance poets.
