In women’s basketball, the Lady Pirates of Seton Hall have been in some tough games in conference play. On February 16th, they were defeated by the Marquette Golden Eagles 66-58. In the loss, SHU got good production from Jasmine Crew with 20 points on 7-13 shooting. Whitney Wood had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Seton Hall shot the ball well, shooting 50 percent. Leading Marquette was Tatiyiana Morris with 17 points.
Prior to the start of the game, there was a pregame ceremony as part of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association initiative to raise cancer awareness and show support to those stricken within the coaching ranks. The Seton Hall women’s team wore pink shooting shirts and pink uniforms, and cancer survivors were honored. This was their annual pink zone game, where there were giveaways to the fans that included mini-balls and t-shirts. Also, there was a large raffle of items that were donated by corporations with all monies raised to be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
At Walsh Gym on February 19th, SHU lost to Villanova 62-54. Leading the Lady Pirates was Jasmine Crew with 17 points. Freshman and MXS alumnus Ka-Deidre Simmons had 14 points.
Although the Pirates have struggled as of late, they were victorious on the road against Cincinnati on February 12th. In that game, Jasmine Crew led her team with 17 points while teammates Brittney Morris added 11 points and Whitney Wood had 7 rebounds. The team beat the Bearcats 51-44 in their first Big East Conference win this season.
