EAST ORANGE – At the Annual Irish Heritage Awards Reception Feb. 23, the Newark St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee recognized Kim Erin O'Connor for her service as the administrative director of outpatient behavioral health at East Orange General Hospital.
O'Connor received the Irish Heritage Award in Healthcare at the Newark Public Library.
"I am truly honored and humbled to be recognized by the Newark's St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee," O'Connor said. "I will continue to remain committed to providing high-quality healthcare to meet the needs of an ever-changing community and patient population."
O'Connor, an employee of 25 years, started out as a night staff crisis counselor and worked up to the current position as head of her division.
"We are so pleased that Kim is being recognized for the positive impact she makes at our hospital and local communities every day," said Kevin J. Slavin, president and CEO of the hospital. "Her dedication has led to the creation of new programs and services which have received acknowledgements and awards."
O'Connor attended Georgian Court University, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology and later received a master's in counseling from Iona College.
"It is a pleasure to recognize and honor Kim Erin O'Connor for the outstanding work she does throughout the local surrounding communities," said Kevin Frey, General Chairman of Newark's St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. "She embodies the leadership and community service that are fundamental elements of our culture and values here in Newark."
Representatives from the hospital will walk during the Newark Saint Patrick's Day Parade on Friday, March 12 at 1 p.m. traveling along Mulberry Street from the Prudential Center to St. Patrick's Pro-Cathedral on Harrison.
