Little League Baseball Team from Puerto Rico Visits Newark’s North Ward

puertoricovisitjune2011-600The Piratas Little League team traveled from its hometown of Guayanilla, Puerto Rico to get a taste of Newark this past weekend through the North Ward Center’s Little League Sports Exchange program, now in its 24th year.

The Piratas played the Roberto Clemente All-Stars on Friday, June 10, and the Project Pride and Newark All-Stars teams on Saturday, June 11 at the Stephen N. Adubato Sr. Recreational Complex in Branch Brook Park.

Hoops Players Recognized at North Ward Center Awards Banquet

Rec_Sports_Awards_2010The North Ward Center capped its first season at the The North Ward Center Youth Development Complex at St. Lucy’s Church with an awards banquet for the 240 players in North Ward Center’s basketball program.

More than 370 children and their parents turned out for the Jan. 15 event at the gym. The event began with lunch and ended with the awarding of hundreds of trophies to the children ages 5 to 12 who participated in the program, which runs from September to mid December.

Global CC is 2010 Millennium Cricket League of NJ Division

cricketnewsDivision A 40 over final played between South Gujarat CC and Global CC on Saturday at Weston Road in Somerset, N.J. SGCC won the toss and elected to bat on a cool morning with a damp outfield. After 10 overs, SGCC looked like they had made the right decision with openers Uday and Hiten Patel taking the team to 48 for 0. But on the first ball of the 11th over, Uday Patel drove medium pacer Theron Blair straight to McGarrell at short cover to depart for 27. The wicket sparked a startling collapse. By the end of the 20th over, SGCC had fallen to 70 for 7. McGarrell and fellow left arm spinner Kumar Nandlal did the majority of the damage. Global CC bowled out SGCC for 129 in 34 overs and it appeared that the match would be wrapped up fairly shortly. Chief wicket takers for Global CC were Neil McGarrell 7-2-17-3 and Kumar Nandlal 7-0-26-3.

Cricket News: British Officers Cricket Club is the Garden State Cricket League 2010 Division #2 Champion

cricketnewsOn a beautiful day for cricket Warinanco Park 9/19/2010, BOCC won the toss and elected to bat, opening batsmen Sunil Dravida and Kuvarsingh Negi putting on 30 runs before Sunil got caught for 12 runs. Negi was joined by Shariq Khan they built a partnership of 76 runs before Negi got caught for 38 runs, the score now 107 runs for 2 wkts. Shariq was joined by skipper Raj Subramanyam they then continued to steady things for the team by sharing a partnership of 73 runs before Shariq got run out for a well made 64 runs, the score now 180 runs for 3 wkts. The skipper went on to make 49 runs before he got caught while Bayazid Siddiqui made 26 runs to steer their team to a decent total of 223 runs for 7 wkts in 40 overs. Kumar Deowdhat got 2 wkts from his allotted 8 overs which conceded 41 runs for Shawnee CC.

Shawnee began their chase losing opener Leonard Charles for a duck and middle order batsman Ramdyal for 5 runs with the score 14 runs for 2 wkts. BOCC superb bowling spell by Bayazid Siddiqui 8-1-29-4 and Tahir Maqsood 8-1-42-3 continued the attack on Shawnee CC and had them at one point in time 68 runs for 7 wkts with only Kumar Doewdhat showing some courage with 50 runs not out and Roy Persaud 34 runs to take the score to 189 runs for 10 wkts in 37.4 overs.

In reply Dynamic CC made 120 runs for 5 wkts in 20 overs Waqas Shahid with 68 runs not out, bowling for PAK-AM CC Adaalat Khan 4-0-23-2.
