NEWARK, NJ - This year, the Seton Hall men's basketball team has been in tough games and hard battles. The game this past Sunday, February 28 was the most crushing result.
The Pirates lost to a tough Marquette team 84-83 in overtime at the Prudential Center in Newark.
The Hall made a comeback late in the game, which was spearheaded by senior Eugene Harvey who had key baskets. One of his baskets tied the game at 69. However, Jeremy Hazell missed a three-pointer to tie the game in OT, which was rebounded and put in by Herb Pope. Marquette inbounded and ran out the clock to win by 1. Leading the Marquette Golden Eagles was Lazar Hayward with 23 points and 8 rebounds was losing the game by score 23-13 then
SHU was led by Eugene Harvey, who had 13 points and 9 assists with 2 steals. Jeff Robinson had 25 points and 4 rebounds, while Jordan Theodore scored 18 points with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Pirates record is now 16-11 overall and their record in the Big East is now 7-9.
Seniors Eugene Harvey and John Garcia were honored before the game and head coach Bobby Gonzalez said the game was a tough loss.
