NEWARK - If Mayor Cory Booker and other city and state officials representing Newark are truly serious about saving UMDNJ, now is the time to act. The university system is to be dismantled July 1. The Record reports that UMDNJ President Denise Rodgers announced the timeline to have Rutgers absorb three UMDNJ schools, as part of a controversial plan to have Rowan University take over Rutgers-Camden.TRENTON - Gov. Chris Christie's proposed budget goes under the microscope today when the Democrat-led Assembly Budget Committee hears politically-charged testimony. This will be the first of three hearings planned, focusing this time on issues related to children's, family and senior citizens issues, and health and human services. Expect many to question why the Governor is pushing for income tax cuts for his wealthy Mendham pals, while ignoring the state's more fragile population. Democrats will also use the hearings to highlight their own plan to cut taxes - which excludes the Mendham types.
