Samuel (Sam) Delgado Joins New Jersey Volunteer Leadership Campaign
NEWARK, N.J. – Samuel (Sam) Delgado, vice president of external affairs for Verizon New Jersey, has been named the Newark chair of the New York Blood Center’s New Jersey Volunteer Leadership Campaign for 2012. In his role as a sector chair, Delgado will interact with leaders in the business, education and public sectors to raise awareness about the critical importance of donating blood in New Jersey’s largest city.
“Communities of color are especially vulnerable to the dire need of blood donors,” Delgado said. “I see my mission in the coming year as to educate the community and increase the awareness of donating blood and bone marrow in the City of Newark. This is particularly important for children with sickle cell disease requiring monthly blood transfusion.”
Delgado, a Newark resident, leads the municipal and county external affairs team for Verizon NJ, which manages relationships between the corporation and local governments. He also supports urban and educational initiatives, as well as philanthropy for Verizon NJ. His community service includes serving as a board member of the Newark Museum and a founding board member of the Robert Treat Academy in Newark. Delgado is also on the executive board of the Brick City Development Corporation and the Newark Workforce Investment Board.
“Mr. Delgado is dedicated professionally and personally to serving the people of Newark,” said Marie Forrestal, director of recruitment, New Jersey Blood Services, a division of New York Blood Center. “We look forward to working with him to shine a light in Newark on the need for an ample and diverse blood supply.”
