I commend the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office for apprehending the suspects involved in the fatal shooting of Miguel Torres, 37, the owner of JNC Mini Mart located at 346 14th Ave. in Newark. The incident happened on January 17, 2012 and they already apprehended the suspects. It was a job well done. “They can do a great job whenever they want to” is the perception of the residents in the Local Talk area.
The people have power. They have shown it in the South Carolina Republican Primary. The stubborn Republican hopeful for the White House Mitt Romney has stated that he would declare his tax returns of 2010 and 2011 later. But due to the change in momentum, he announced his tax figures earlier. He is worth $240 million dollars and is paying less than 15% of the tax rate, as stated by him previously.
The Giants are in Super Bowl. Who can believe it after 14 games into the regular season? They were 7 and 7. Everyone thought that Giants were out and the Jets were in for the Wild Card playoff spot. The tables turned, and the Giants started winning. The team and Eli Manning started to win in the fourth quarter mainly. Right before the Giants NFC title game, the Baltimore Ravens lost in the fourth quarter due to a missed easy field goal. The Giants were in the same situation, but Tynes made the field goal in overtime, making every Giant fan happy as ever can be. It was a win with teamwork. The defense played a great role and kept the San Francisco 49ers under control. Special teams made two great plays. Eli Manning was 7 of 21 on third down, as Alex Smith was 1-13. Now the Giants will face their archrivals, the New England Patriots. Even though New England will be the favorite, I will go with the Giants. For two weeks, will be great excitement to listen, watch and talk about the Giants. Millions of dollars will be bet on in the New York area. There is only one thing to say: “Go Giants.” It will improve the local tri-state economy.
Joe Paterno passed 65 days after he was fired by the Penn State administration. His former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky has been charged with sexually molesting 10 young boys. Paterno won 409 games, and 250 players he coached went on to the NFL. He took the Nittany Lions to 37 bowl games and two national title championships. He will be remembered by coaches, players and fans for a long time to come.
On January 8, 2011 six people died and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was injured in a shooting rampage outside a Tucson, Arizona grocery store. After one year, she has announced her resignation. She sent a message on Twitter: “I will return, & we will work together for Arizona & this great country.”
