Editor's Note 1/13/2012

DHIRENHello Readers,

2011 is history now. The way that the economy predicts the worst may become history in near future. However, in the local economy we do not see much of a difference. Obama’s administration is not doing a great job, but is trying their best to handle the situation in the best manner they deemed fit. The rich got richer and the middle class is diminishing. The effort of fundamental changes to bring the smaller businesses back on track has not been seen yet.

In my opinion, too much government control in our businesses and our lives is hurting the U.S. economy. For the last couple of decades, the mergers have taken place and it all started with Bill Clinton, who allowed many mergers and made the trend towards monopolies. The government is spending more money for government programs now. In the last two decades, we have seen more government buildings, more franchise businesses, and/or rich corporations’ buildings being built. These nice looking buildings are controlled by the well-to-do, and are not helping the middle class. In the near future, if you want your life to be smooth, you must work for the government or large corporation. It’s sad, but it’s the truth.

Assembly minority leader Alex DeCroce collapsed in the restroom of the New Jersey State House and died on January 9, 2011. DeCroce, 75 years old from Parsippany, helped Chris Christie start his political career. He has served the Assembly since 1989 and served as a republican leader at the State House since 2003. There will be a sweeping change in the political arena at the state level.

Mitt Romney has been under attack over his role at Bain Capital, the investment firm he helped create. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas equated firms like Bain to “vultures,” and Newt Gingrich demanded answers from Romney about how many jobs were lost on his watch. Despite all of the attacks on frontrunner, Romney won the New Hampshire Primary by a wide margin with 39% of the votes. Now the eyes of people will be over South Carolina’s GOP Primary. South Carolina is an evangelical state.

Per the Associated Press, a three-judge panel at the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld an earlier injunction preventing State Question 755 from being certified until the free speech questions are resolved. The decision on Jan. 10th allows a lawsuit brought by Islamic-American groups to move ahead to a bench trial.

"The proposed amendment discriminates among religions," said the judges. "The Oklahoma amendment specifically names the target of its discrimination. The only religious law mentioned in the amendment is Sharia law."

A federal judge last summer had issued a temporary restraining order in favor of the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which had sued to nullify the law completely.

We are a democratic country, and the courts should follow the rules of all religion. It is very difficult to single out one religion.

Have a wonderful week. I’ll talk to you next week.
