Hello Readers,
How time flies. Eleven years ago, a goal to help the community became a business. However, as I said when Orange’s Mayor Hawkins honored me at his mayoral ball, the appreciation awakens something in me and makes me analyze myself. My goal to uplift the quality of life should not be diverted as it is my mission. We at Local Talk thank those who have helped in the process of us becoming a household name. We have tried our best over the years to listen to and learn from people's suggestions. Sometimes we cannot grant their wishes due to the budget, but we do appreciate their suggestions.
After 11 years, I am not content yet. The quality of life has not gone up in the area where Local Talk serves. However, it is a long process. The people have not used the power of the ballot to awaken the politicians, and as long as those politicians get their way, they will continue doing business as usual. Once they climb the ladder, they serve the politicians under them, rather than the people. They take care of the programs that help them down the line, and they act as bosses of the corporate structure.
The Wall Street protest had been predicted many times by me over the years. I was expecting it to happen by 2013 or 2015, but it happened sooner. When there is a vast difference of wealth distribution, the rich and powerful, with the help of our political leaders, make laws in their favor, and the middle class is slowly and gradually being eliminated.
On November 1st, the Dow Jones Industrial Index dropped by 296 points due to the fear of the European Market's financial uncertainty, especially Greece. Germany and France have now pressured Greece to make their decision about their voting of 130 billion dollar bailout.
Herman Cain, a republican presidential hopeful, has been pressurized to release a confidentiality agreement from 1990 about sexual harassment. The people want to know the truth and hear the woman's side of the story. In the coming weeks, we will hear more about this.
To those who have asked, the wonderful photographs taken at Local Talk Community Foundation’s Second Annual High School Public Speaking Scholarship contest were taken by Reginald Ward of Ward Studios. If you have an event and need professional photography, he is the man for the job.
Again, I want to thank everyone who has helped over the years. Rev. Dr. Margaret Lucas, who tirelessly worked with Local Talk in the beginning. East Orange Mayor Robert L. Bowser, who has encouraged us time and time again and came out of city hall and distributed our first paper. My family, Asha my wife, my sons Akshat and Anuj, my daughter-in-law Sangeeta, and my granddaughter Simran have inspired me so much. I look forward to continuing my mission to uplift the quality of life for those living in Essex County, as well as those who I encounter in my life.
Have a nice week. I’ll talk to you next week.
