Welcome Back, Giorgio

giorgiosGiorgio's Restaurant - South Orange, NJ

We were greeted with a warm smile and a simple statement of "good evening, welcome to Giorgio's." I immediately felt comfortable as we were escorted to our seats near the window. The atmosphere at Giorgio's is warm and welcoming, the décor is elegant and makes you feel like you are seated in a restaurant on Park Avenue in NYC. Our table overlooked the outdoor patio and as we were just starting to enjoy the view, it began to rain. But the weather only accentuated the mood and atmosphere at Giorgio's, as "Con Te Partiro" played in the background. It was enchanting and the perfect setting.

Shortly after being seated we were joined by Janet, Giorgio's beautiful wife, who invited to sit and chat with us. Janet manages the front of the restaurant while Giorgio, Executive Chef, manages the kitchen with his culinary staff. Giorgio's Restaurant was originally a NYC-based restaurant but after Janet and Giorgio started their family they moved to South Orange and the restaurant moved from NYC to NJ. Giorgio's had been a well-established restaurant in South Orange for about 16 years, with a huge following and great support from the community. However, Janet and Giorgio decided they needed to take a break and focus on their four children - and after a four-year hiatus they have returned!

Recently re-opening their doors about seven months ago, it's as though they never left (they were sorely missed). Residents and followers have returned with open arms and their appetites. Janet expressed that she and her family are truly blessed and the community has welcomed them back - she is overwhelmed with the support from residents and is very thankful and happy to be back in the business she and her husband both love!

Our first course of appetizers was fried calamari, deep-fried to perfection with a side or Italian fresh herbed spiced marinara sauce. We also enjoyed the Deconstructed Bruchetta, (oh my goodness - you have to try this!) which is sliced garlic bread topped with cream stuffed fresh mozzarella, baby greens, basil and fresh tomatoes, then balsamic vinaigrette drizzled on top. Great!

Next, we thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken Caprese - thin slices of chicken breast, seasoned and lightly pan fried and then topped with mozzarella cheese, onions, garlic, parmesan cheese and other Italian spices. One of the specials for the night was pan-seared scallops served over lemon risotto - the scallops were perfect and the lemon risotto, delicious!

Desserts range from tiramisu to sorbets and include coffee, cappuccino and chocolate gourmet ice cream.

Giorgio's Restaurant is an absolute must for gourmands, the food is absolutely delicious. Put this restaurant on your list - and visit soon. From the ambiance to the service and food, you won't be disappointed! Tell Janet Nikki from Local Talk says "Hi and Welcome Back!"
